Conor McGregor is often seen taking shots at fighters. Whether it’s analyzing performance or being critical about it, McGregor is very active on social media in sharing his thoughts. 

“Mystic Mac” did the same on Twitter recently, when he shared the clip from the bout between Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa. The Notorious was all praises for Romero for his striking prowess. 

In the tweet, McGregor said, “The craftiness of Yoel has always been incredible to watch! I am modeling the second half of my career off of this mad Cubano.

An action pack battle between the two saw both the fighters scoring a knockdown in the first round. They went back and forth for three rounds. In the end, Paulo Costa secured victory via unanimous decision.

After knocking out Jose Aldo, McGregor, in his post-match interview, delivered a quote for the ages. The Irishman said, “Precision beats power and timing beats speed.” This bout also won McGregor his first UFC title. 

His Striking: Then vs Now

Although, over the years, McGregor has developed a new style. Earlier, he used to have a more karate-style stance, where he was very light on his feet. He was light-footed and used to throw kicks constantly. In this style, all the power was generated from the snap of his shoulder. 

Lately, the Irishman has opted for a more boxing-centric style. Here his stance is wide, he’s heavy on his lead leg and the use of kicks have been minimal. This style has played against him, making him prone to leg kicks. It was evident in the second fight against Dustin Poirier, where the Diamond won the fight based on leg kicks, which created an opening for strikes.

McGregor, through this tweet, has hinted at a comeback. He has let the fans know that his career isn’t over just yet. He has also realized that changes need to be implied in his style in order to enhance his performance. With several sparring footage that he has released, it’s safe to say he’s in the gym doing his homework.
