Conor McGregor recently did a press run and appeared in an interview after a long time. He recently made an appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ with host and famous combat sports journalist, Ariel Helwani. McGregor revealed which championship he is aiming at post-Michael Chandler‘s fight.

‘The Notorious’ is busy with his work away from the octagon as he continues the filming process for the remake of the 1989 classic, ‘Road House’. McGregor made an appearance at UFC 285 weekend, along with Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal, to shoot some of the action sequences for the upcoming movie.

Moreover, the former ‘Champ Champ’ is also busy shooting for the 31st season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ opposite Chandler as a coach. Ariel Helwani interviewed him in a recent episode of his popular MMA show. He asked McGregor about the weight class for his upcoming bout. ‘The Notorious’ revealed that his fight will be in the welterweight category of 170 pounds. He will apparently make a jump to the welterweight division once again.

Conor McGregor gunning for the welterweight title instead of the lightweight title

The former double champion had fought his last couple of fights in the lightweight division. However, he lost on both occasions. McGregor said, “170!.” He was then asked if he was getting a title shot if he wins against ‘Iron’. He said, “I’d like some, I’d like that [title shot].”

McGregor also mentioned that he will be there to witness the fight between Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman in the upcoming UFC pay-per-view. “I may be present for the card [UFC 286],” said the former champion. He mentioned that he will be in London to “make moves” on his Black Forge Inn pub and is keen to witness the main event. He said, “We’ve got to watch that welterweight title for sure.”

UFC fans will have to wait for the bout between his former rival Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s protégé, Islam Makhachev, and Conor McGregor, since the latter has confirmed his wish to move up in weight class. There were rumors surrounding his welterweight move since late last year.

‘Mystic Mac’ posted pictures of an incredible physical transformation and added a considerable amount of weight late last year. McGregor has even mentioned his wish for a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz down the line. While the lightweight champ is on an amazing 12-fight winning streak, McGregor would seek to get back to his winning ways against Michael Chandler.
