Conor McGregor’s Legacy Hangs in Balance as UFC Champion Alexander Volkanovski Calls for a Historic Matchup

Despite a two-fight losing skid, Conor McGregor still manages to be one of the most talked about fighters in the UFC. Moreover, with internet beef and his controversial comments on social media, ‘The Notorious’ has managed to stay relevant.

Furthermore, there’s also no shortage of people willing to fight McGregor. The Irishman is constantly on the minds of fighters and many have taken the chance to publicly call him out as well. Nevertheless, the potential for financial success is massively high in a McGregor fighter, and other fighters are fully aware of it.

Meanwhile, it’s mostly fighters from lightweight and welterweight who have been lately calling out the Irishman. However, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has also displayed his interest in fighting McGregor. 

Alexander Volkanovski expressed his willingness to fight Conor McGregor

The current featherweight champion recently sat with the media and answered questions related to his future fights and his next step in the UFC. Meanwhile, most of the questions surrounded his potential matchup with the UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. However, one reporter asked the Aussie, “you offered to welcome him [McGregor] but is that a possibility do you think? Down the line.”

Volkanovski replied, “Yeah, look it is. Everyone’s always gonna talk about Conor and oh, you always want that money fight. Yeah, of course. Everyone’s gonna talk about that. It’s big, it’s massive. Any fight that you have with Conor is gonna be massive. So we’re not stupid. We understand that.”

That fight means more than just money for the P4P king

Furthermore, the pound-for-pound King also stated how a McGregor fight would enhance his legacy. However, fighting at lightweight would be difficult, since McGregor has put on considerable size. Yet, it could be a possibility.

Volkanovski additionally said, “I’ve talked about the things I wanna accomplish. You know, you got featherweight GOAT, pound-for-pounds, whatever it is. All that type of stuff… I’ve taken down every other featherweight champion, except for him… obviously, he can’t fight at featherweight, but he’ll fight at lightweight and there could be an opportunity there.”

Meanwhile, looking at McGregor’s current physique, fans are skeptical that the Irishman could even make lightweight. Even he has pointed out a potential move to welterweight. However, only time would tell what happen.
