Dana White Confirms Carla Esparza Versus Rose Namajunas Strawweight Title Fight

After a highly successful 2021, the UFC matchmakers are looking to book blockbuster fights for 2022 as well. Interestingly, the next year will start with an undisputed heavyweight title fight between Ciryl Gane and Francis Ngannou. Meanwhile, Dana White has just confirmed another title fight, and it’s for Rose Namajunas.
When replying to a question about Rose Namajunas’ next fight, White said, “Carla Esparza. 100 percent.”

Namajunas has had a successful 2021. She beat Zhang Weili at UFC 268 to retain her belt. Earlier, she beat ‘Magnum‘ to become the first female in UFC to regain a title. Now, ‘Thug’ Rose, who is on a 3 fight streak, will look to extend it and avenge her 2014 loss to ‘Cookie Monster’.
On the other hand, Carla Esparza is looking great with a five-fight win streak. ‘Cookie Monster’, who last fought and defeated Yan Xiaonan earlier this year at UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Garbrandt, has refused to take a non-title fight.

The title fight announcement may have come as a shock for UFC fans around the world. However, ‘Thug Rose‘ was always clear about her next opponent. Interestingly, it’s a wish come true for her, as she has been waiting to get a rematch against Esparza.

The duo first met each other back in 2014 at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale, where ‘Cookie Monster’ submitted Namajunas(12-4) in the third round to become the inaugural 115-pounds champion.
Since then, the current strawweight champion has been waiting for a chance at revenge. Namajunas has also made it public quite a few times.

In a recent public appearance at the 13th annual world MMA awards, ‘Thug Rose’ told MMAJunkie that she wants the rematch. She said, “It’s the only one that makes sense. I can fight anybody, but nothing really interests me other than Carla.”
