UFC’s newly crowned featherweight champion has shown interest in quite a lot of big names to fight after his K.O. win against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 288. Since then, Ilia ‘El Matador’ Topuria has talked about wanting to fight big names in MMA such as Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Sean O’Malley, and even agreed on wanting to move up a weight to fight against Islam Makhachev for the lightweight strap.
This has led to some drama in the past week as Topuria and Makhachev have been going at each other on social media. ‘El Matador’ even mocked the lightweight champion by posting a clip of him getting knocked out on his Instagram account. However, the 27-year-old now looks to be starting another beef with UFC’s bantamweight champion.

Sean O’Malley and Ilia Topuria have no love lost between each other. The two have been going back and forth on social media for quite some time as O’Malley claimed to want to fight Topuria if he won the featherweight gold against Volkanovski. Now that the 27-year-old has won the UFC gold, Dana White may have gotten a great main event for the Spaniard’s next fight. ‘El Matador’ vouched for the same in his recent tweet, “Me vs Suga. Who wants to see it ?”

This callout could possibly be because of what Sean O’Malley had said during an interview with Ariel Helwani, where the bantamweight champion implied that the newly crowned featherweight champion did not want to fight him. O’Malley claimed that he was a tough fight for Topuria which is why “El Matador” was ducking him.

However, before he can take on Ilia Topuria, O’Malley will face Marlon Vera at UFC 299 in Miami on the 9th of March. And Topuria might have some more issues to deal with given his backlash from Khabib’s team after his comments on wanting to fight Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Bellator Champion takes a shot at “El Matador”
Topuria posting a clip of Islam Makhachev getting knocked out on his Instagram account seems to have not only triggered Makhachev but his entire team. UFC bantamweight and Makhachev’s teammate, Umar Nurmagomedov discredited Topuria’s credentials in an interview with a Russian outlet. But it didn’t stop there as his brother then took to his Instagram to post an image of a Matador getting rammed by a bull on his story.
In the caption of the Instagram story, he wrote, “[Translated] For every matador there is a bull. Umar doesn’t have to move up in weight, he has a brother who will tear your a**.”
