Daniel Cormier was the one who interviewed Alex Pereira‘s mentor Glover Teixeira in his final UFC post-fight interview. Teixeira handed over the baton to his disciple at the end of his era. ‘Poatan’ also has his next target ready in the form of his arch-rival, Israel Adesanya. The UFC supremo, Dana White, recently took to social media and announced the scheduling of the coveted rematch between Adesanya and Pereira for UFC 287.

The exciting announcement from the UFC boss created instant headlines and gained a lot of appreciation from the fans. Of late, DC also went on record to discuss this sudden fixture by the UFC. DC too was enthralled after the announcement of such a huge main event for UFC 287. He was also excited about the much-awaited Gilbert Burns vs Jorge Masvidal bout fixed as the co-main event of the night. But, he decided to give his opinion on the main event primarily.
The former UFC champ champ put forward two questions that he was going to talk about. DC stated, “Why is it happening now and for what reason is it happening?”
Cormier started off with an explanation of how Adesanya definitely deserved a rematch. He mentioned, “If anyone deserves a rematch, it’s Israel Adesanya. Because what he had done in the Middleweight division and honestly what he had done at the start of his UFC and MMA career, he deserves a rematch”.

But Cormier also laid stress on the point that they declared the rematch all of a sudden. He said, “Like no one ever said anything about whether or not that this rematch was gonna happen”. Moving on, he talked about the factors which could’ve been the catalyst for this sudden fixture.
He described the incidents that happened post Glover Teixeira‘s fight inside the Octagon. DC stated, “Alex Pereira stared at Jamahal Hill in the Octagon but then Alex Pereira started to go back to Israel Adesanya, and Robert Whittaker and everyone else. He became far too willing to go on to the next thing. So then two days later his rematch with Adesanya is announced”.
Cormier clarified his opinion that Pereira‘s mental frame of coming back to action may be a factor influencing this rematch.
Cormier implied that Israel Adesanya didn’t want to miss the opportunity
DC also implied that Pereira‘s motive to get back in action might have rung a bell in the former champ Adesanya‘s mind as well. As per DC, if Pereira would’ve gone to fight someone else, it would’ve meant curtains for ‘Izzy’s’ dreams of regaining the Middleweight title. He presented Pereira‘s current mental frame stating, “If Izzy doesn’t want it, I’ll fight Robert Whittaker. Bam! Two days later, it’s the rematch.”

DC had previously stated, “it would be Israel Adesanya’s decision or discretion whether or not he’ll get a championship fight”, in his video. Hence, his implication towards Adesanya asking for the rematch was quite understandable.

But Cormier also put up his doubt about whom would this matchup favor. He stated, “It’s only gonna be six months since the last fight. Did Izzy leave a lot more time away from him to come back and fight him again?”
