Colby Covington has a knack for stirring up controversies with his polarising persona. However, he kicked the hornet’s nest with his recent comments about UFC commentator Jon Anik. In an interview during the days after UFC 286, Covington went off on Anik for siding with Belal Muhammad against Covington getting the next title shot. ‘Chaos’ went as far as to even issue a death threat to Anik.

His comments received backlash from a large section of the MMA community. Thanks to the incident, he now has a fresh rivalry with Belal Muhammad. Furthermore, his old rivalry with Jorge Masvidal has a new life after ‘Gamebred’ also fired back at Covington multiple times for his comments about Anik.

Meanwhile, Jon Anik has a different take to add to the matter. In a recent interview, he had a surprising statement about Colby Covington, where he stated his admiration for the welterweight despite their recent beef.

In a recent video uploaded to the DraftKings YouTube channel, Jon Anik addressed the Colby Covington situation. He had a sit-down with fellow commentator and ex-UFC champion Michael Bisping. During their conversation about the UFC 286 main event, Anik segued into the topic of Covington.

Recently, Covington appeared in an interview on Bisping’s YouTube channel. Some of the comments he made during the chat with Bisping impressed Anik.

He said, “As an American, by the way, even though Colby and I aren’t necessarily seeing eye to eye these days, I have to admire, if not acknowledge, his patriotism, right? How often does somebody actually get out there and say, ‘you know, I got to get one back on the UK because Edwards just beat Usman.'”

He added, “It’s very rare that American fighters, you know, sort of claim the stars and stripes the way he does. So I appreciated that, at the very least.”

Post UFC 286, Dana White confirmed Colby Covington was next in line for a title shot. Although this raised many eyebrows, White stood firm in his claim.
