Michael Chandler has put his career on hold for the prospect of facing Conor McGregor. The former Bellator champion was slated to face ‘Notorious’ in December 2023 after their contentious stint as rival head coaches on this year’s edition of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’.

However, since, then there have been no updates on the timeline for ‘Mac’s return after two years out of the Octagon. And former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has corrected one misconception fans have about a potential McGregor-Chandler fight.

Aljamain Sterling and his crew got to discussing the Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler fight on his ‘The Weekly Scraps’ show on YouTube. One of his guests pointed out that Michael Chandler had good reason to put his career on hold to get a chance at McGregor, as it would be the biggest payday he had ever seen.

‘Aljo’, however, cautioned that was not a foregone conclusion. Every fighter, he reminded everyone, was paid according to their contract, and fighting Conor McGregor does not change that unless Chandler renegotiates with the UFC.

“But people need to remember every fight is different. Every fight, you are already bound to your agreement by your contract so your payday does not change. The only way Chandler will be able to get a different payment is if they went to renegotiations for this fight [which] they should if you’re fighting Conor McGregor… Who doesn’t want a red panty night? I mean come on,” ‘Funkmaster’ said.

In good news for Chandler, however, UFC boss Dana White informed fans that he would be talking to McGregor to try and figure out the details of his return. However, in very bad news for Chandler, there are indications that McGregor might fight outside the UFC.
