Dustin Poirier Fires Back at Reporter for Calling Charles Oliveira -“Just a Dude in the Division That Happens to Have the Belt”

Dustin Poirier finally got the better of Conor McGregor with his recent win at UFC 264. He won the trilogy 2-1. Although McGregor promised to come back and fight Poirier again, it’s certain that fight fans will not see the Irishman for a while because of the lower tibia fracture he suffered at the end of the first round.
With this win, Dustin Poirier has solidified his number one spot in the lightweight rankings. Now, the current lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, seems to be the next target for ‘The Diamond’.
Unlike his demeanor towards McGregor, Poirier has a lot of respect for the ‘Do Bronx’. He showed it in the post-fight press conference and defended Oliveira when an MMA reporter made a bold statement.

The reporter said, “McGregor was such a big obstacle overcome the last time because he had beaten you the first time this was to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Now you get to Oliveira and he is just a dude in the division that happens to have the belt. Mentally, will that be a hurdle will that be a little bit of challenge during champ to get yourself back to that same place?”
Dustin Poirier responded, “Nah, he’s not just a guy in the division who happens to have the belt. He is a guy who has picked himself up off the canvas time and time again fought through adversity.”
Dustin Poirier says he has nothing but respect for Charles Oliveira
The UFC champion Charles Oliveira came from the streets of Brazil and built his name from scratch to get where he is today. ‘Do Bronx’ climbed the rankings by demolishing eight straight opponents to get his first title shot. He transformed himself from an inconsistent featherweight to a successful lightweight, which took him over three years.
