While sparring ahead of the highly anticipated Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor match, the Irish lightweight suffered a severe injury to his toe. The verbal confrontation between Nurmagomedov and McGregor had hyped up the match, and the fans were excited to see their two favorite fighters give it their all at UFC 229.
McGregor, nefarious with the mic and a dominant presence in the ring, was about to face the biggest challenge in his UFC career – and he knew it. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is a relentless fighter with an impeccable ground game, was going to play it to his advantage and McGregor had to bring his A-game in sparring. However, during an intense training session, ‘The Notorious’ broke his toe.

UFC fighters go through grueling training sessions when preparing for a fight, especially if it’s a title fight. Nurmagomedov and McGregor sold out seats because of their unparalleled rivalry and charisma, both in and out of the octagon.

‘Gix.mma’ uploaded a new snippet from the Netflix documentary about Conor McGregor. In this snippet, one can see it all unravel – McGregor being tossed to the ground and injuring his toe. Fans and skeptics wasted no time in letting their opinions known. Comments such as “ohh okay broken toe, fridge left open, what else, an arrow on the neck?“, “Healthy foot or not … he wasn’t beating Khabib. Love Connor but cmon mane ha“, “My TOE was a Baloon” and “My foot was a balleewn – conor mctapcoke” flooded in, mocking the notorious lightweight fighter.

But his supporters were not far behind. People commented, “Pinky toe holds like 50% of the stability in your foot or something like that“, “He still won a round against prime khabib” and “prime connor > khabib . Khabib kinda fought nobodies for most of his career . But he is a dominant and great fighter just his resume lacks what other goats have . and mcgregor always struggled against guys with good grappling , and well khabib is one of the greatest grapplers and wrestlers oat” to show their support for the Irish fighter.

UFC 229 – What went down
Despite a broken toe, ‘Mystic Mac’ put up a great fight and had one round to his name. However, in the end, ‘The Eagle’ got the best of him and won by submission. The fight went down as one of the greatest matches in the UFC. In the Netflix documentary, McGregor says, “My foot was a balloon,” referencing this exact moment.
