Adesanya had the majority of the fight under his control. He was in control for 6:34 mins while Alex only had 0:31 mins of the fight under control. Perhaps this is why the result came as a surprise for many people as Adesanya was so dominant. But Pereira did catch up in the last round, and by the looks of it, he had enough firepower in his fists to put Adesanya away.

Joe Rogan was full of praises for referee Mark Goddard. He explained how stopping the fight was a subjective call. Although he has seen some fights go on longer, he could understand why Goddard stopped this fight.

The UFC commentator said, “Mark Goddard is one of the very best in the world. He is top 2 or 3, he might be number 2.”

According to Rogan, Mark Goddard is only behind Herb Dean and 1 referee who wasn’t with the organization before, namely ‘Big John McCarthy’. Mark is in this elite list of referees in Rogan’s book and has made very few bad or questionable calls.
