UFC commentator, Jon Anik, who was a part of the commentary team at UFC 284, has shared an interesting opinion on the main event fight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski. The 44-year-old who has long served as one of the major members of the broadcast team revealed in a fresh tweet what he felt about the main event fight. Anik revealed that although he was not a big fan of rewatching fights for the sake of scoring, he claims he decided to do that, especially for this bout. The former ESPN anchor also revealed what he felt about the judge’s decision and scoring that saw Makhachev successfully defend his lightweight title.
Considering that Anik watches the fights along with his commentary duties, he also expressed how a bunch of things could influence his judging, especially during live action. Also, since many don’t agree with the official decision, with even Volkanovski himself debating it, Anik‘s tweet definitely makes things interesting.

Anik feels Makhachev won the fight 48-47 but claims it could have gone either way
Considering his special place beside the octagon, Anik does have a lot going on his plate during live action. While stating his opinion on who won the fight, the long-time UFC commentator did accept that various things could influence his judgment.
Anik also made sure that he pointed out all of these in his tweet.
“Not usually a proponent of watching a fight back for purposes of scoring or re-scoring it but that is what I’m doing this morning. I thought Islam Makhachev won 48-47 whilst watching live, but of course I got a lot of sh*t going on. Close fight either way; want to see it again..” Read his tweet.

Ultimately, many would agree with Anik‘s claim that Makhachev won the fight. Considering that it was a very close affair, even fans of Volkanovski might feel that the Australian was robbed of a victory.

In a tweet expressing his interest in rewatching the fight, the commentator claimed that he usually doesn’t do that. Anik claimed he was not a big fan of going back to a particular bout just for the sake of scoring. Although there are multiple fighters, coaches, and even fans who do that; the 44-year-old clearly doesn’t seem to be one of those.
