Jorge Masvidal, with his late-career resurgence, experienced the fame that he would have never expected during the first half of his career. In 2019, he amassed such massive popularity that he ended up becoming one of the biggest stars in the UFC.

After the stellar run in that year, ‘Gamebred’ fought for the title twice against Kamaru Usman. However, he came up short on both occasions. Furthermore, he ended up losing another bout against his arch-nemesis, Colby Covington.

Gamebred’s title aspirations were almost gone down in ruins. However, Leon Edwards shook the world by defeating long-reigning Usman and won the belt. Thereby, he gave some hope to the 37-year-old.

Chael Sonnen believes ‘Rocky’ is punishing Jorge Masvidal

Although Masvidal is on a three-fight losing skid, he shares a brief history with Edwards. In March 2019, post a UFC event in London, the pair got into a scuffle during Masvidal’s backstage interview. Since then, the talks of them potentially facing each other have been brewing.

However, Edwards has been dismissive about it for the most part and so are fans. Nevertheless, former UFC fighter, Chael Sonnen shared his opinion on the same. The American gangster took to his YouTube channel to state the mindset of Leon Edwards.

Sonnen said, “Leon wanted what Jorge had, which was headlining spots. He wanted to be where Jorge was, which was Madison Square Garden. He wanted Hollywood’s biggest stars and the President of the United States to come into the ring to watch his fights. But they didn’t do it, they did it for Jorge, who hit him four times and didn’t let him answer for it.”

Sonnen further added, “He wanted to have a belt put around his waist. But again, that happened to Jorge. So Leon is now as a way of punishing Jorge, sticking it to Jorge. Instead of digging to the body and going upstairs, he’s going to punish and get even with Jorge by telling him, I have what you want and you don’t deserve it. Stay back.”

‘Uncle Chael’ explained that Edwards wanted everything Masvidal had during his stint in 2019. However, he couldn’t. Nevertheless, now ‘Gamebred’ has been calling out ‘Rocky’ after he became the champion. Edwards is toying with him and being completely dismissive about the matchup.
