Mental health issues can be debilitating; especially for athletes who sometimes have to deal with them publically. Something similar happened with Tony Ferguson. Fans love Ferguson for his incredible achievements in the octagon. However, back in 2019, something shocking took place.
His wife, Cristina Ferguson, filed for a restraining order against him. This was to keep him away from their son, Mrs. Ferguson’s parents, and brother. According to his wife, Ferguson’s behavior was quite erratic. She was worried that he would flee with their son and, hence, wanted full custody of their child.

The fighter was, however, not arrested or charged, as he had committed no crime. As per MMA Fighting, Cristina Ferguson felt his behavior was “threatening and violent”.
In a statement, she wrote, “Tony Ferguson is a good husband and good father to our son. The current legal proceedings are a part of a process to ensure that Tony will receive the help necessary to continue being the best possible, as well as to pursue his passion and career as a UFC champion fighter. All positive well wishes are sincerely appreciated and I hope our privacy will be respected.”
Because of the behavior Ferguson was showing, his wife wanted him to seek psychiatric help.
Further, his mental health has been a touchy subject for him. While reporters/media have tried to question him about that, Ferguson prefers to not answer them. However, on the bright side, it looks like things have settled down for him a while ago. He and his wife have reconciled.
Therefore, Ferguson might have received the help he required.
When will Tony Ferguson fight?
Fans cannot wait for ‘El Cucuy’ to fight once again. He last fought at UFC 262 against Beneil Dariush. Currently, he is coming off three consecutive losses. But before that, he was on a spectacular 12-fight win streak. Thus, fans cannot wait for the 26-6-0 record holder to climb the division.
