While discussing the nuances of understanding sport at an elite level, Rogan expresses his delight in watching Charles Oliveira.
“When dudes scramble on the ground and someone’s like an elite Jiu-Jitsu black belt. The people that are practicing Jiu-Jitsu are like ‘holy shit, look at that guy’. Like, Charles Oliveira, watch how he cinches this up. Holy s***.” exclaimed the 55-year-old.

Prior to this Rogan and Santino were discussing how it takes a level of mastery to appreciate a professional’s skills.
“If you are really good yourself, then you could really appreciate a pro,” stated Rogan. In a way, this is the reason why he respects guys like Charles Oliveira. The stand-up comedian has been a long-time student of Jean Jacques Machado and clearly knows what goes into the making of a top-level grappler. Oliveira undoubtedly stands out among MMA fighters owing to his slick grappling and naturally, Rogan finds it a thrill to watch him.

Rogan on the difference between professional athletes and regular people.
The conversation between Rogan and Santino eventually led to other sports. The long-time UFC commentator, who has been an ardent pool player, brought up his interaction with Fedor Gorst as an example to show the skill gap between professionals and regular people.

Rogan states, “If not the best pool player in the world, top 3 for sure. We came in and played him on that table. It was wild….The level between me and him, I’m like a B player, and watching him play, holy f*** man, it’s humiliating. He’s so good.” The last bit even left Santino chuckling in laughter.

Joe Rogan clearly understands the elite level of skills required to compete at the highest levels when it comes to BJJ. His appreciation for Charles Oliveira stems from this particular aspect of him. The former champion might have lost his title to Islam Makhachev, but there’s still no denying that his BJJ skills are out of this world.
