

American media personality Ben Shapiro has praised commentator-podcaster Joe Rogan for bringing an important issue to light. The famed UFC commentator reiterated the tragic conditions that surround the people who work in mines for raw materials for producing batteries for various devices.
Harvard University Professor Siddharth Kara appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience and said that every rechargeable electronic device that is powered by lithium-ion batteries includes cobalt in it.
He also said that the majority of the cobalt comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kara added that the conditioners of the workers who mine are brutal and dangerous. He also mentions that people are forced to work under those conditions, even being held at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, Ben Shapiro made a post on Facebook expressing his concern about the incident. He shared an article that was published by ‘DailyWire and his post wrote, “Absolutely horrific.” It was not the first time Shapiro had reacted to an issue and topics raised on the Joe Rogan Experience.
He previously extended his support through another Facebook post on Rogan talking about the possibility of The Rock taking steroids.

Rogan and Kara watched a video on the mining conditions in the Democratic Republic of Congo while the latter talked about cobalt’s demand. The main reason behind its high demand it works on almost all electronic devices nowadays.
“We can’t function on a day-to-day basis without cobalt, and three-fourths of the supply is coming out of the Congo,” said Kara. He also mentioned, “And it’s being mined in appalling, heart-wrenching, dangerous conditions.”
Kara mentions that Congo has at least three-fourths of the total amount of cobalt found in the world. This has brought the country into conflict in the geopolitical scene.

The mining sites are owned mostly by the Chinese government and the Chinese government itself. Kara added all the Congolese are under major duress. Congo is a country of roughly 90 million people. The local population has been displaced.
Siddhart Kara believes that certain problems are created by the biggest and most well-known tech and energy companies like Tesla, Apple, and Samsung, just to name a few. Congo has a history of using children for labor.
