Khamzat Chimaev has taken the UFC world by storm with his impressive performances in the octagon. The Swedish-Chechen fighter debuted in the UFC in July 2020. He has quickly become one of the most talked-about fighters in the sport.
However, his journey has not been without its bumps. Chimaev was scheduled to fight Leon Edwards in December 2020. However, he was forced to withdraw from the fight due to COVID-19 complications. The fight was rescheduled for January 2021 but was canceled again because of Chimaev’s COVID-19 symptoms.

At UFC 279 in September 2021, Chimaev missed weight by 7.5 pounds. It led to the UFC reshuffling the entire main card. Chimaev was scheduled to face Nate Diaz at 170 pounds, but ended up fighting Kevin Holland at a 180 pounds catchweight bout. That was the last fans saw of Chimaev.

Khamzat Chimaev talking about his inactivity
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Chimaev revealed the true reason for his inactivity. According to him, he has been accepting fights, but nothing is materializing. “I accept all the fights but it didn’t happen so I don’t know what’s happening but I’m waiting,” Chimaev said. He specifically mentioned three fighters, Colby Covington, Alex Pereira, and Robert Whittaker, all of whom he claims to have accepted fights against.
Chimaev said that he had accepted the fight against Covington multiple times, but the fight never materialized. Chimaev also claimed that when he asked to fight Pereira after his middleweight title win. The UFC initially agreed, but then changed their minds and asked him to fight Covington instead.

“I had a conversation with Sean Shelby when Alex Pereira win the fight. I told him like let me fight with that guy, he said come on let’s go brother and then thereafter he said no brother you fight Colby.”

Khamzat Chimaev about Colby Covington
Colby Covington is clearly not holding back against Chimaev lately. Chimaev just talked about the reason he thinks Covington is targeting him. Chimaev accused Covington of trash-talking him only after he moved up to middleweight, implying that he was avoiding the fight.

He stated that when the UFC sent Covington a contract, he was quiet and didn’t say anything. “Now when Dana White says Khamzat is moving up with the weights and Colby starts talking a lot of sh*t about me.”
