Jorge Masvidal will be back in action against Leon Edwards at UFC 269.

Masvidal is one of the most popular fighters globally and is also one of the biggest draws in the UFC. His stock grew massively overnight after his crazy knockout win over Ben Askren. That was the fastest knockout in UFC history. A 50 fight veteran in MMA, Masvidal right now is on a two-fight losing streak. In December, he would love to change that when he goes against his bitter rival, Leon Edwards.

The fight at UFC 269 is one of the biggest grudge matches in UFC history. Both fighters don’t like each other and will look to shut the other guy up with a dominating win. However, ‘Gamebred’ in the past hasn’t been open to fighting Edwards. He was recently at The MMA Hour and was asked why did he accept the fight now? Jorge said, “Well, in the past, I was fighting ranked opponents and for belts. Now I got a bit of downtime; I’m like, yeah, I’ll fight this guy, I don’t have s**t to do right now.” 

According to Masvidal, the fight is not personal to him. It is all business, and Edwards is just another guy in the way of him achieving his goals and dreams.

Jorge said about how the fight got set up, “I told the UFC, get me the fight that gets me closer to fighting for the belt again and the most money. That is what they came up with.”

Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards is a grudge match that MMA fans are excited about. Ever since their altercation backstage after UFC Fight Night 147, people have been expecting this fight to be made. During the confrontation, Masvidal was able to land strikes on Edwards, which left him with a cut on his left cheek.

UFC has tried to make this fight happen in the past, but it never materialized. However, after a few negotiations, the fight was booked for December 11, 2021. According to ‘Gamebred,’ they’re fighting now because he said so. Jorge said, “The whole time, from the start of him calling me out, I’ve always said, I’m going to fight this guy, but when I say. The whole time he was saying he wasn’t going to fight me then, I said, you know what, you’re going to fight me now. And guess what, he’s fighting me right now. He does what I say when I say.”

The matchup between the two will be interesting to watch. Masvidal is coming off a two-fight losing streak. Both of his losses came against the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. So it will be interesting to see if he’s able to bounce back from them. On the other hand, Leon Edwards is undefeated in his last 10 fights. His last fight was against Nate Diaz, which he won via a unanimous decision.

Fans will be in for a treat when these two meet in the octagon. Both fighters like to dish it out in the middle, and they definitely won’t hold back their strikes against each other.
