The on-and-off tussle between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler in TUF Season 31 has made fans excited about their probable clash in the octagon. Hoping for a fight announcement soon, the fans anticipate a clash that promises not only rivalry but a symphony of action in the octagon. 

But to their dismay, fans have to wait as the Irishman isn’t back in the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s testing pool. ‘The Notorious’ has injected a jolt of surprise into the narrative by revealing that UFC does not want him to fight Michael Chandler anymore.

Recently, McGregor replied to a fan who had asked about his lack of interest in fighting Michael Chandler. To which the former replied, “I’ll do it if they want, no prob. I don’t think they want him no more tho.”

The Irishman, who loves having fight options, made his stance clear, asserting, “There’s loads of juicy fights around, and my return date is my return date.” Having last graced the octagon in a bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021, the Irishman’s presence in the octagon has been keenly awaited.

Conor finds a potential opponent in Gaethje

As a former UFC two-division champion, Conor always remains open to facing potential opponents in the future. And with Justin Gaethje being crowned as the new BMF champion, Conor has new plans in sight. 

Following Gaethje’s highlight reel knockout over Dustin Poirier in their UFC 291 rematch, McGregor tweeted about ditching his probable fight with the former three-time Bellator champion. Instead, he expressed his desire to fight the newly crowned BMF champion, Gaethje.

While McGregor’s tweet added a layer of excitement, Michael Chandler has shared his perspective. Chandler believes that the fight between him and McGregor is happening, asserting that the clash makes too much sense to not materialize. 

In a recent interview with ESPM MMA, Chandler said, “I’m still the most entertaining guy on the doggone roster. Everyone wants to see the greatest comeback in combat sports history, so I think it’s going to be me and Conor. That’s it.”

McGregor has consistently maintained an open-minded approach to potential adversaries. This stance comes into play again as Justin Gaethje claims the mantle of the new BMF champion.
