The world-famous UFC commentator recently opened up about his experience with Jiu-Jitsu. Joe Rogan, in his podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ episode number 1920, sat with Dave Portnoy. As usual, the host and his guest talked about several intriguing topics. It really caught the internet’s attention when Rogan mentioned his experience with Jiu-Jitsu. The 55-year-old shared that his interest in martial arts was since his younger days. Rogan recalled following the Ultimate Fighting Championship since its second event in March 1994. As the commentator watched Royce Gracie, the UFC 1 champion, he was in shock.

Rogan could see the UFC legend flipping people on the ground. He felt like his wrestling past in high school could do him no good. However, his kickboxer self told him otherwise. Overly confident, Joe Rogan started taking Jiu-Jitsu classes to see what the hype was all about. He ended up getting “mauled” by the fighters. The commentator went on to describe the painful reality.

The amazing kickboxer did not think much of the Brazilian martial art. Instead, Rogan was sure that he could handle anyone who knows how to fight Jiu-Jitsu. According to the 55-year-old, he had a “distorted perception” of his fighting abilities.

Joe Rogan shared with his guest how he learned to respect Jiu-Jitsu, “I had this whole idea in my head like ‘Jiu-Jitsu? I’m sure it’s good, but I could void all their bulls*t’. No! I just got mauled and manhandled.

To all the people who think like the younger version of the UFC commentator, he shared a useful thought. “You’re a child to someone who knows how to fight! You really don’t know until you experience it,Rogan added. He went on to discuss how right after a few classes, he started having self-doubts.

The techniques and discipline followed in Jiu-Jitsu had taught him a useful lesson. However, it should be noted that this important lesson wouldn’t have come into play if it weren’t for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

How the UFC helped Rogan with his life

The 55-year-old UFC commentator said in the podcast episode, “what UFC did was to open everybody’s eyes to Jiu Jitsu and how effective it is.” He was so influenced by Royce Gracie’s UFC 2 fight that he decided to check out Jiu-Jitsu himself.
