‘I Was Coughing Up Blood’- Alexander Volkanovski Shares Horrifying Details of Battle with COVID-19 on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’

Alexander Volkanovski sat down with Joe Rogan on his podcast and opened up on his battle with COVID-19. Volkanovski was out of commission for a meaningful amount of time due to the severity of the effects he endured. Alexander Volkanovski has been open about his struggles and is keen to bounce back into prime form.
Alexander ‘The Great’ engaged with a spirited back and forth with Rogan, who had interesting input on the matter. Chiefly, Joe Rogan has been following the stories of fighters who have gone through similarly trying experiences as Volkanovski. Cody Garbrandt and Khamzat Chimaev are two notable names that popped up during their discussion.
“That’s [training] going to play a big factor, and the thing is you hear like Khamzat sort of situations, Cody Garbrandt like we wanted to keep an eye on it… I felt the symptoms a fair bit but then I get that pneumonia and like the infection just started getting a litte worser.”

“I ended up like coughing up like pinky bloody sort of stuff. The blood just got more and more. And that’s when we went back and they got me on medication cause I was coughing up blood.”

Alexander Volkanovski: On the comeback trail

With his battles against COVID-19 in the rear-view mirror, Alexander Volkanovski is looking to get back into the swing of things. He last fought all the way back at UFC 251 and his return fight at UFC 260 was pushed back. However, the cancelation of his UFC 260 co-main event appearance provided an opportunity to be a coach on TUF.
