Dricus Du Plessis won the middleweight title against Sean Strickland at UFC 297 and he also announced that he was ready to fight at UFC 300. However, then he changed his decision and said that he would much rather focus on UFC Africa and also mentioned an opponent that he would want to fight. He called on Israel Adesanya for a fight.

However, Adesanya retaliated against DDP after accusations of declining the UFC title fight in Africa. The duo has always been on a collision course long before their confrontation in UFC 290. The rivalry started when the ‘Last Stylebender’ was the middleweight champion and DDP had called him out, promising to become the next African champion and bring the belt back to Africa. They were expected to fight against each other even in UFC 300 and Israel Adesanya was ready, but ‘Stillknocks’ believed he was not prepared and declined. This didn’t rub off Adesanya well, and it showed in the latest video.
