Let’s roll it back 10 years. Jon Jones was still the champion, and he also received an opportunity to coach at The Ultimate Fighter S17. However, his opposite was the prodigal trash talker, Chael Sonnen. Both then clashed at UFC 159, and, as expected, ‘Bones’ made quick work of his opponent. As he soaked in the festivities, Joe Rogan came over and pointed out that Jones had a broken toe, and the room started to spin for the champion.

The fight that took place 10 years ago is a testament to his fighting pedigree and another example of why the American fighter is still the “baddest” man on the planet. Further, his interview with the color commentator gained accolades for his fighting will and set his legacy in stone. But how did the 36-year-old feel as he fought with a bloody toe?

The heavyweight champion appeared on OverDogsPod, and when asked how he felt during his fifth title defense, he said, “I didn’t feel a damn thing. I was so happy to get Chael. And in the moment, I didn’t feel a damn thing. I did a cart roll after the fight. I was feeling great.”

When the Rochester native picked Sonnen apart and handed him a first-round KO loss, he got the chance to speak with the UFC commentator. Recalling the iconic moment, he expressed, “Got to talk to Joe Rogan, which is always a little cherry on top of a good victory. I looked down, and I was like, ‘Bro my foot is all f*cked up.”

In addition, he mentioned he felt throbbing pain, but as a fighter, he had to suck it up and act tough. “And immediately, the moment I looked at my toe is when the pain in the room started to spin a little bit. But then there’s a certain comfort with pain that you kind of have to [keep] doing what we do,” Jones added.

“Where you just kind of just kind of suck it up. Like, ‘All right, this is happening. John don’t pass out. You are in front of everybody’. So you just kind of take a deep breath,” Jones continued. The 27-1-1 record holder then sat on a stool and puffed heavily to calm himself down as he answered every question that Rogan threw at him.

Rogan approached an elated Jones, who was still throwing some shots in a shadow practice. However, he soon stopped and pointed out to the audience that Jones had a broken phalanx. But the 56-year-old didn’t make a fuss out of it and continued with his questions like nothing happened.

“Joe did a good job, not making it a big deal,” Jones lastly declared. The UFC champion then went from strength to strength in his UFC career and shattered every record. Earlier this year, he arguably settled the GOAT debate as he won the heavyweight crown, which he is set to defend at UFC 295 against Stipe Miocic.
