In his recent YouTube video, ‘DC’ invited UFC veteran Ben Askren as his guest. The conversation was initiated when Cormier asked Aspren if Jones was acting smart not to address the young talents. The welterweight veteran took a little time to respond since he had quite a blunt statement to make. He said, “Well I mean a part of it too is uh someone posted uh… it was a picture of Jon Jones being ranked in 2013 and I think they said he may be the only guy who was ranked in 2013 who’s still competing something to that effect right. And I was thinking, you know ‘wow he has been around forever.'”

It was true that Jones had been seeking glory ever since he joined the promotion, but Askren had to blow the minds of the viewers further with his statements. He said, “But then I started thinking like he’s missing significant gaps. He has multiple one year or so… uh his win versus you versus win over Ovince Saint Preux that was a 15-month gap he then took roughly the same gap uh between time he fought Ovince Saint Preux and you again after that he takes like an 18 months gap and then obviously most recently he took a 3 year gap right.”

Furthermore, he had this to say, “It’s so long, I mean that’s 15+15+18 so we are talking 48, that’s four years + three that is 7 years of missed time. That’s seven years without a fight of those four gaps right.” Askren seemingly highlighted the factor that made the heavyweight champ’s journey easy. He felt that the year-long breaks Jones witnessed during his career proved to be a helping hand to establish his stature in the realm of the UFC. So much was said about Jones in the interview but this was not the first time that ‘Bones’ became a matter of discussion.
