What caught the attention of the online community, apart from his brilliant striking display, was his unique way of checking leg kicks. Let us see why it was peculiar.
Jon Jones and others highly rate ‘Hands of Stone’
Normally, a fighter checks a leg kick by turning their legs outside, so that the kicker takes more damage. An alternative to this is how the UFC legend Jose Aldo, and former champion Charles Oliveira, lift and fold their lead leg, making the opponent completely miss his mark.
But Pereira blocked the leg kicks by bringing his back leg behind his lead leg and shielding himself with the underside of his foot. This drew quite a few reactions.
MMA media influencer, Nina Marie Daniele was intrigued by the method of checking leg kicks and was curious to know about the same: “What do you call that leg check you do?”
On similar lines, another fan was left fascinated by that method: “Those blocks on the low kicks is wild.”
Even Dillion Danis, A MMA fighter lauded this technique and stated, “Never seen anybody block a kick like that.”
