The major reason why fans anticipated their bout was that they believed that the existing rivalry between the two would cease after the bout. However, it seems that when Edwards became successful in retaining his belt, the fighting career of ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ came to a standstill. The #2 bantamweight, Sean O’Malley, offered an explanation of Usman’s loss.

‘Sugar’ recently uploaded a video to his YouTube channel. In the video, he was seen talking about the huge blunder committed by Usman. He said, “I think Kamaru f***ed up talking about how bad his knees were. I’m like imagine going into a fight with someone just scary moth***ker you don’t know s**t about him.”
Sugar added, “You just know they’re a bad moth*****ker but now you’re going to do a fight with a moth*****ker, you’re like oh he can hardly walk like his knees are so bad. Imagine how it makes you feel a lot different um so I think he kind of f***ed up talking about bad his knees are.“

Here, the bantamweight fighter was talking about how the psychology of a fighter works. When Usman talked about his knee injury, it boosted Rocky’s confidence. Consequently, Edwards was able to earn a glorious victory via decision after the fifth round. Currently, the record of ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ stands at 20-3, while that of Rocky stands at 21 victories and 3 losses.
This has indeed resulted in Edwards receiving more love and appreciation from the entire UFC community. As per the announcement made by UFC president Dana White, Edwards will next square off against Colby Covington. While ‘Rocky’ is braced for bigger and better things, the future of Usman is at a standstill.

The two consecutive losses against Edwards took not only the belt away from Usman but also the positive trajectory of his career. In the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ fell to the #8 position. Back in October 2021, Usman overtook the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones. Nonetheless, Usman made it clear that he has no plans to retire but instead will work towards earning another title bout. The fans now have to wait longer to find out the future endeavors of ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.
