The stage is set and the lights are shining bright as two of the best in the game, Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski, prepare to face off in the highly anticipated main card bout of UFC 284. With so much on the line, both fighters have their eyes set on the prize and are ready to give it their all. Makhachev is aiming for the top spot on the pound-for-pound list and looking to defend his title, while Volkanovski is gunning for the double champ tag.

However, there’s a twist in the tale, as Makhachev‘s mentor and coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov, won’t be in his corner for this crucial fight. Despite not being physically present, ‘The Eagle’ has expressed his support for Islam Makhachev, through a touching Instagram post.

Khabib Nurmagomedov may not be physically present around Makhachev, but he is making sure that his protégé felt his presence. Through a special Instagram post, ‘The Eagle’ has dedicated a message of support to the lightweight champ, letting him know that he has got his back every step of the way.

Nurmagomedov wrote (translated), “But there is not much left Brother”. Perhaps talking about the tea that is seen in the picture. But the same applies to the time that’s left for the matchup at UFC 284, too.

However, the reigning lightweight champion seems to be well-prepared to enter the battle without Khabib cornering him.

No problem without ‘The Eagle’s supervision

Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s absence in Islam Makhachev‘s corner during his fight against Alexander Volkanovski will leave a noticeable void, but Makhachev is ready to fill it. He aims to prove himself and make his mentor proud by stepping up to the challenge. Makhachev fully comprehends and honors Nurmagomedov‘s reasons for not being present, and is solely focused on delivering a winning performance.

During his interview with Fox Sports Australia, Makhachev said, “I understand him. Because, you know, he was retired, but he still traveled a lot with the whole team. And when somebody has a fight, he goes to the training camp, went to the other things, you know.”

He also talked about how the 29-0 record holder wants to now prioritize his family. Something which he hasn’t been able to do for quite a long time being a coach. “When you retire, you want to spend more time with your family. For example, 2022 he spent just two months at home with his family, but all the other time he traveled a lot. That’s why he wants to spend more time with his family.”

Lastly, Makhachev said, “He gave me good support for this fight. We talked about this fight. He gave me the plan. I have to fight. That’s why we will see.”
