The UFC 261 event marked the return of fans back into the arena. While it was a treat to see the fans back in action, it surprised everyone to see the former UFC fighter, Nick Diaz, in attendance at the event.
Many speculations were being made about why Diaz was there. Now, it turns out he was there to see UFC President Dana White. During the post-match conference, White himself addressed the fact.

The prospect of Diaz fighting seems strange as the veteran fighter hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since 2015. When the media asked if the UFC would give Diaz a fight, White responded with a confident, “Sure.”
White confirmed that Diaz was waiting in the back to talk to him. Although the UFC President did not confirm any opponent for Diaz, there was some speculation that Diaz might face Khamzat Chimaev. When ‘The Schmo’ asked “If it was crazy to throw out Khamzat Chimaev as a potential opponent” for Diaz, White simply responded with a “No.”
Dana White had earlier dismissed all rumors of Nick Diaz returning?
While Diaz last competed in 2015, his last victory inside the Octagon came almost a decade ago. The fighter hasn’t won a UFC fight since his victory against BJ Penn at UFC 137 on October 29, 2011.
Everyone was confident Diaz had hung up his boots and would never return to action. Even Dana White thought the same as he talked about it in an interview. He said, “Everything that I see from Nick Diaz doesn’t look like Nick Diaz wants to or is ready to compete in this sport.”

White continued. “I don’t think anybody should want to see Nick Diaz fight. Nick Diaz has been in a lot of wars, he’s accomplished a lot of great things in his career, he’s made a lot of money, he’s obviously super-famous.”
“He’s gotten everything you could hope to get out of fighting. I just don’t know why, when I see his Instagram, why he would want to come back.”
