Michael Chandler Explains How His Wife Has Been Pivotal in His Career

Michael Chandler was on an impressive three-fight win streak before his first title shot. However, he lost to the current champion, Charles Oliveira, in the second round of the fight. This was Chandler’s first loss in the UFC. It devastated him as he lost an enormous opportunity in his new home. However, he coped up with it and soon got back to training.
The fighter credits this to the time he spent with his amazing wife. He claims it helped him come to terms with his first loss in the UFC.

Recently, in an episode of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, ‘Iron’ talked about the things that got him back on track after UFC 262. He said, “Man, so the good thing is I do have the luxury of having a past that I was able to learn from. So a lot of it really is just going back to the journals that I wrote back in 2013. Going back to the interviews that I was doing back then. Or the new interviews that I have done since I signed with UFC, which has been less than one year.”

He added, “And hearing those things. I was saying and reminding myself that I was put on this earth for great things. But I do have, man, I got such an amazing wife. We’ve spent a ton of time together. We got over it by not ignoring it but trying to push it to the side. And just trying to be a normal person, you know. Not only did I lose this title fight, but I also needed a break.”
Michael Chandler vs Charles Oliveira: First UFC Loss of ‘Iron’
The former Bellator champion, Michael Chandler, has had an amazing professional career, going (22-6). A skilled finisher, ‘Iron’ has ten wins via knockout and seven via submission in his resume.
He made his UFC debut against Dan Hooker at UFC 257 and won his first UFC match with an opening-round knockout.
