‘Never Been This Afraid of Anything…’- Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson’s Last Year Post Indicated the UFC Star’s Suffering as He Wanted to ‘Dig Deeper’

One of the most promising and talented light-heavyweight fighters, Anthony Johnson, had been suffering for a while. The former UFC and Bellator fighter’s demise news shocked the combat sports world on Sunday. However, the cause was earlier attributed to an undisclosed illness.

Reportedly, the cause of death is attributed to organ failure due to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Notably, ‘Rumble’ in one of his previous posts had indicated the sufferings endured but couldn’t share the details with the fans.

Anthony Johnson and his previous message

The 38-year-old fighter won accolades with his one-punch knockout power. As a result, the American fighter earned his famous nickname, ‘Rumble.’ Johnson last fought at Bellator 258 and further was scheduled at Bellator 268 on Oct. 16, 2021. However, the noted fighter withdrew from the fight, citing an undisclosed injury.

Later on, ‘Rumble’ took to Instagram to clear out the air and gave his fans an update. While writing that he couldn’t reveal the details of his illness, the fighter remained hopeful of his return in 2022.

Further, the 23-6 record holder wrote, “Never been this afraid of anything in my life but I’ve remained strong with the support of friends and family.”

In addition, Johnson, in the caption of the post, asked for prayers. He, later on, added, “This is gonna be a battle and I’m gonna have to dig deeper than I ever have before.” However, in the same caption, the American fighter notified that Covid was not the cause of the concern.

The fearsome knockout artist also kept the fans updated with periodic posts on his social media handles. Moreover, one of his posts from May 2021 shocked the fans as Johnson appeared to shed considerable weight.

Following this, In one of the posts from June 2022, Johnson addressed his weight loss concerns. However, he assured the fans that he didn’t drop any power and still possessed the renowned one-punch knockout brute force.

Similarly, in October, Johnson’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, in an interview with ESPN, pleaded with the fans to pray for the fighter. Also, the CEO of Dominance MMA Management informed the panel that the Blackzilians team representative was not well.
