A number of UFC fans might be going through a restless period as the UFC 290 is inching closer. Apart from the main event of the show, a large chunk of fans will also be looking forward to the coveted Middleweight title shot eliminator between Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis. Although, the UFC Middleweight champ, Israel Adesanya, predicted the bout to go in favor of ‘the South African’, Whittaker recently revealed his own intentions on how he wanted the bout to end.

‘The Reaper’ appeared on the noted YouTube podcast, ‘Submission Radio’ lately and described that he would be jumping all out for a win. He also predicted that a victory won’t come easy for either of them. But, Whittaker didn’t want to settle for any half-measures in his upcoming bout.

The ‘Submission Radio’ host started off things about this issue by questioning Whittaker, What do you say about the prediction going Du Plessis? How do you see it playing yeah?”. Apparently, the host hinted towards the Middleweight king, Israel Adesanya’s prediction” regarding this bout.

Although ‘The Reaper’ didn’t take on the “prediction” question directly, his overall response was enough to answer it as well. Whittaker replied, It’s gonna be a dog fight and I’m looking to put him[Du Plessis] away”. Such iterations from the former UFC Middleweight champ might enthrall a number of fans, making them expect an action-packed war between the two.

He further mentioned, I want to put him away. And it’s not that I haven’t tried this with everybody else. But, I want to get a finish”. It was apparent that Whittaker didn’t want his fate to be decided by the judges.

Also, Whittaker’s words were enough to reveal that he wasn’t really bothered about Adesanya’s prediction, who picked his rival, Du Plessis, as the victor. But, comparing the prowess and experience of the two, fans might question ‘Izzy’s’ choice.

Does Israel Adesanya really think Dricus Du Plessis will get the better of Robert Whittaker?

Well, apparently ‘Izzy’ does think so, as he has revealed the same on record. But, this might also be a well-planned mind game from the current UFC Middleweight king. After his UFC 287 victory over his archrival, Alex Pereira, Adesanya, had called out Du Plessis instead of Whittaker.

He said that he wasn’t interested in a third fight against Whittaker since he had already “done it twice” and got the better of him each time. Instead, he revealed, “Some guys that are coming up that are really good. They are lower ranked, but they’re really good. I see them, so yeah! I like those challenges”.

Looking at all of this some fans might say that ‘Izzy’s’ prediction was a planned move. He actually wanted to fight du Plessis over Whittaker. But, ‘The Reaper’ had a different opinion about Izzy’s prediction. The Whittaker vs ‘Izzy’ rematch at UFC 271 was a lot closer than their initial bout at UFC 243. Hence, ‘Bobby Knuckles’ was of the opinion that he had everything to beat ‘The Last Stylebender’ this time.
