However, allegedly, the platform had given Rogan full creative authority. As reported by ‘Boomerang‘, Rogan didn’t want to feel muzzled and wanted to make sure he would have creative freedom with Spotify. Three executives who worked on Rogan’s deal with Spotify revealed this.
As per Boomerang, “Rogan demanded complete creative control and insisted on an expansive morals clause that would let him say almost anything without fear of retribution, say the execs.”
Rogan has had several controversial guests on his podcast and hence, some executives questioned if it was worth it for Spotify to take such a risk.
The executives also tried to see if other podcast hosts could replace Rogan or replicate his audience. The answer was reportedly a “No”. Since Rogan’s debut on Spotify, it has been the platform’s top podcast.

Apart from Rogan, Michelle Obama’s ‘The Michelle Obama Podcast’ was a popular original show hosted by Spotify in 2020. The former first lady attracted a lot of attention to Spotify.
The platform also signed agreements with the world’s biggest celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and others who had little experience making podcasts. As per reports, it could have been Spotify’s strategy to acquire an audience instead of building from scratch.
