Islam Makhachev‘s recent dominance in the lightweight division has marked the beginning of his championship reign. Fueled by excitement, the champion is now eyeing the coveted double champ status. Makhachev has boldly thrown down the gauntlet, challenging Colby Covington for a potential clash. Expressing his ambitions further, he hinted at the possibility of moving up to contend for the welterweight belt.

Makhachev has been undefeated for a long, and the combat enthusiast feels like he might go undefeated just like his teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov. Regardless, Michael Bisping thinks otherwise. The former UFC fighter believes that Justin Gaethje might have the potential to bring down Makhachev.

Michael Bisping believes that Islam Makhahcev should not move up to the welterweight division as his legacy might be questioned after that. Bisping recently in his YouTube video was inquired by a fan about the UFC’s gameplan for Makhachev if he defeats Charles Oliveira.

‘The Count’ stated that rather than moving up to the welterweight division, Makhachev should stay in the lightweight division since Justin Gaethje is next in the line and he has the potential to defeat the champion. Bisping said “If Islam beats Charles Oliveira again, I don’t think he should go up to 170. That’s been happening a lot lately. There are certainly a lot of contenders. If he beats Charles Oliveira, who’s next?”

He further added “I mean, you don’t have to be a scientist for this one; that was pretty simple. The human highlight, the one and only Justin Gaethje is right there. He just knocked out Dustin Poirier and beat Rafael Fiziev. That man is next in line.”. Nobody is certain about Dana White’s plan right now but Makhachev has made it certain about his aspirations.
