UFC Analyst Anthony Smith Reveals “Solid” Stipe Miocic’s Weight: “In Physicality He Absolutely Matches Jon [Jones]”

Jon Jones re-established himself firmly in the race to be the GOAT in the heavyweight division on his comeback. The ease with which ‘Bones’ was able to dispatch a fighter of Ciryl Gane‘s caliber is evidence of the skills and heart the current heavyweight champ has. Yet soon after winning the heavyweight title, the 27-1-0 [1 NC] record holder had one man’s name in his mind that he wanted to go against next. Stipe Miocic was the target that Jones agreed to be chasing in the post-fight interview after UFC 285.

While the 35-year-old sent a jab about Miocic‘s age and profession. It appears that the latter too is not backing down. As it shows from reports, he might be silently working to prepare himself for the big fight.

In a recent interview with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, UFC analyst Anthony Smith revealed why he feels the 40-year-old could be the one to stop the dominating run that ‘Bones’ is on. He said that ‘The Silencer’ possessed some weapons in his arsenal that no other fighter in the division had.

Ariel Helwani asked Smith about who he thought could be the winner if Jon Jones fought Stipe Miocic. ‘Lionheart’ looked convinced and said he felt the latter was the one who would come out on top.

Smith said, I did have some issues previously with Stipe in the John talk because Stipe was so small there, for a while as he was going into those Daniel Cormier fights, you know, he was 230 pounds when he fought Daniel. The last time I had dinner with him on Thursday and he is absolutely massive. He’s he claims he’s 253, he’s well over 253 really and he’s solid, so he’s been very quietly working. “

The 40-year-old is a very experienced operator and has slayed many giants in his career. His career record reads 20 wins and 4 losses. He might be 40, but his profession being a firefighter will always keep him fit. We can also not discount the fact that he may have been bulking about to meet the force that Jon Jones is.

Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones brewing?

The war of words has started, and it seems both the fighters want a go at each other. Given the circumstances, the #1 heavyweight fighter would like to take a shot at the champion. Miocic had earlier responded to Jon Jones‘s jibes and threatened him with a “world of pain” after ‘Bones’ suggested that he leave his profession as a firefighter if he wanted to win against Jones.

UFC president Dana White had also indicated that the two may meet in the cages soon. If this match-up comes to life, Jon Jones will be up against a worthy opponent. Fans will be excited to see the two giants have a go at each other.
