Joe Rogan has been a constant presence on the MMA scene for over two decades now. The 55-year-old is one of the leading voices in the sport and his opinions hold their weight. A martial artist himself, Rogan is one of the most popular figures on the UFC commentary desk as well. However, one of his recent opinions garnered a lot of reactions from the MMA world and attracted a lot of heat.
Outside of his UFC role, Rogan is arguably the world’s leading podcast host. He topped Spotify’s global podcast list twice in a row with his work on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’ He interviews MMA personalities in a special segment called the ‘JRE MMA Show.’ His most recent guest was the two-time UFC title challenger Jorge Masvidal.
During his conversation with ‘Gamebred’ in the JRE MMA #137, Rogan made a claim that did not go down too well with the MMA community. The former ‘Fear Factor’ host wanted MMA to legalize strikes to the back of the head.

However, not everyone agrees with Rogan. One of those people is former UFC champion and Hall of Fame member Michael Bisping.
Michael Bisping disagrees with Joe Rogan
During a recent Q&A session on his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping addressed the comments from Joe Rogan. He also briefly discussed the example of Ciryl Gane striking Junior Dos Santos to the back of the head, which Rogan gave to support his argument.

Bisping said, “I disagree. Yes, Junior Dos Santos did eat an elbow from Ciryl Gane. And by the way, I’m not arguing with Joe Rogan. I value his opinion. He’s been around this sport [for] a very very long time. So, you know, he has his opinion. I’m sure he can elaborate on it more.”
He continued, “And yeah, that elbow from Ciryl Gane on Junior Dos Santos kind of was to the back of the head. But the back of the head, I mean… There’s just more potential damage- damage of the spine, damage of the brain, I think. That’s what I’ve always been led to believe. Maybe I’m wrong.”

A strike to the back of the head is only one among some dangerous moves banned in the UFC. Alongside rabbit punching, the UFC does not allow moves like knees to a downed opponent.
With that said, Bisping seems to be leaning toward athlete safety than more carnage in the sport. But does Rogan have a point, too?
