Conor McGregor and his famed return are becoming topics of discussion with no resolution. And perhaps it’s only reasonable to keep going because the Irishman has always pushed fans to believe that he’s making a comeback soon. But how soon really? Soon enough for UFC 300?
Dana White has gotten everyone excited by talking about how great he wants UFC 300 to be. So, could the fight between McGregor and Michael Chandler be the unannounced main event that White has been hyping up this whole time? Here’s what this UFC legend believes.

Conor McGregor and the endless guessing game

Conor McGregor’s return to the cage has slowly evolved into a fable with many endings. One suggested that he’ll come back at UFC 300 and now, another one suggests he’ll come back June 29th. Dana White has already cleared the air about the latter and now Chael Sonnen has a solid idea of the former.

“Conor versus Chandler, UFC 300, do you think this is the fight?” Sonnen asked his viewers in a recent upload on his YouTube channel. “Do you think this is the fight that we’re waiting on the big reveal now? ‘No,’ is my answer. No, because I don’t know that we would have a shock and/or an awe moment. . .”

“My biggest pushback on Conor versus Chandler being a main event at 300 is policy says title fights go last. Policy says even further, if there’s two title fights on the same card, whoever is heavier goes last.” So Sonnen has presented us with two very good points.
A) Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor won’t be so surprising anymore and B) neither of the two fighters have a title wrapped around their waists. This only reduces the odds of the fight happening at UFC 300. So when is McGregor actually returning?

A small answer to a prolonged question

In truth, no one can tell. Perhaps not even the Irishman himself. Perhaps he has no certainty of his return as of right now, but to keep the hype around it alive, it has become necessary to keep reminding fans that he’s going to come back soon. Interestingly, MMA insider and UFC veteran Josh Thomson believes that McGregor won’t be making a comeback this year.

Thomson, on his ‘Weighing In’ show, told fans and co-host John McCarthy that it’s probably the UFC that’s holding his return out for the time being. There’s no solid reason why, but even McGregor has accused the UFC of not giving him a fight. But he is still in the USADA pool being tested since it hasn’t been six months since he entered. So will he return soon? Probably not. Perhaps a date not too soon after UFC 300 would feel like a relief to the fans. What do you think?
