The UFC welterweight division is currently under siege as the champion Kamaru Usman is unwilling to let go of his belt. He is undefeated in the UFC and has beaten every meaningful opponent that the division has thrown at him. However, one man is yet to fight him, Stephen Thompson.
“Wonderboy” has had two title fights in the UFC. He held his own against a prime Tyron Woodley, registering a draw and a majority decision loss. As he couldn’t win the belt, he had to fight his way back to the top. Now, aged 38, he’s finally on the brink of a title shot.
He is fighting Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 264, which is being headlined by Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. Burns lost to Usman in his last fight and would want to get a win over here to try to get his revenge. However, beating Thompson won’t be easy.
