Walking into a UFC fight is an experience like no other. It’s a mix of emotions, adrenaline, and pressure that can take a toll on even the most seasoned fighters. But being on top of the game can add even more pressure to the already intense experience. Kamaru Usman, the former undefeated welterweight champion, knows this all too well.
Usman was once undefeated for 15 fights and was just over a minute away from breaking Anderson Silva‘s record for the biggest winning streak. However, in his last fight, he was knocked out by Leon Edwards, ending his streak.

Kamaru Usman talks about the pressure of being on the top
In a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ talked about the struggles and pressure that come with being undefeated and the expectations that build up as a result. “Everyone’s waiting for you to lose,” he said.
He further added, “And every time you go out there and defy the odds, it’s like it’s a bigger pressure on your shoulder.”
Usman also spoke about the additional pressure that comes with being a successful fighter, including the expectation of a bigger paycheck for his family and the need to sell fights as an entertainer, as well as being a fighter.
