Former UFC heavyweight contender Greg Hardy is gearing up for his third professional boxing bout. This time around, he’ll be facing off against ex-WBO NABO cruiserweight titleholder Michael Hunter. In 2016, the former football defensive end decided that he wanted to try his hand at MMA. His very first MMA bout took place in 2017, where he defeated Joe Hawkin by knockout within 32 seconds. Later, ‘Prince of War’ found his way to the world’s biggest MMA promotion by impressing fight fans through Dana White‘s Contender Series.
Hardy’s first UFC bout was against Allen Crowder at UFC Fight Night 143. He lost his debut fight by disqualification in the second round. Following this, he fought nine bouts in the UFC. The former footballer’s contract with the promotion came to an end at UFC 272, and later he chose to be a free agent. Now, Hardy is finding success in boxing and is all set to fight against the highly experienced Hunter. Let’s dive deeper to find out more about their upcoming showdown.

Greg Hardy versus Michael Hunter is all set
Recently, MMA reporter Alex Behunin took to X and wrote about the former footballer’s next match. He mentioned that Hardy will fight against Hunter on August 20. Though ‘Prince of War’ is relatively new to boxing with a 2-0 professional record, he’s up against a more seasoned fighter in Hunter. The former WBO NABO cruiserweight champion boasts a record of 20 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws. The former NFL star is now getting great opportunities in boxing after being done with his controversial UFC stint.

Hardy has achieved some initial triumphs in his professional boxing journey. However, facing Michael Hunter is a significant step that can be quite challenging. Hasim Rahman Jr. is the sole notable opponent ‘Prince of War’ has encountered. On the other hand, ‘The Bounty’ has achieved several regional championships and has competed with some of the best boxers in the world. There is no doubt that the former UFC star would have to work hard to put on an impressive fight against Hunter.

The ‘Prince of War’ impressed Chael Sonnen
When Hardy left the UFC, he was on a three-fight losing streak. His final bout at the promotion was against Sergey Spivak at UFC 272. The former NFL star lost the bout in the very first round via TKO. Even after failing to earn a big name in the UFC, Chael Sonnen believes that Hardy is an interesting athlete. After his bout against Hasim Rahman Jr. Sonnen claimed that the 35-year-old has something new to offer all the time.

He was impressed by how Hardy defeated Rahman Jr. at the Misfits X DAZN Series 3 boxing event. Sonnen appreciated Hardy for his spirit, even though he was surrounded by controversy when he was in the UFC.
