As the UFC 251’s original main event is scrapped, the company is making all possible efforts to put together a replacement. The original challenger Gilbert Burns did not board the plane to Abu Dhabi as he tested positive for Covid-19. The fighters are also making it easy for the UFC as they are throwing their names up for consideration. One of these is 2nd ranked Welterweight contender Colby Covington.

As per a Tweet by Ariel Helwani, ‘Chaos’ responded positively when quizzed about slotting in to fight Kamaru Usman. He said, “My offer stands. Ball is in the UFC’s court. I’m here to save the day against Marty or Judas. Feed me either one. I’m ready. Knew to be ready for this 7 months ago.”

A few hours later, the former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion appeared on a chat with Submission Radio. Here he reasserted his stance from the chat with Helwani saying, “I wasn’t surprised, dirty Dilbert got corona. I expected it what did I tell you guys the last 6-7 months. I said that Jorge street Judas Masvidal was going to price himself out. He never wanted to fight Marty in the first place and it’s gonna be me and Marty rematch. And that’s what it needs to be.”

Furthermore, he engages in trash-talking Kamaru Usman and went on to highlight how he is always ready

Colby Covington is ready to fight at short notice

‘Chaos’ said, “I been preparing for this, I been preparing for a short notice call for the last 6-7 months. I been ready for something like this. So now that it happens put the ball in my court all I need is the ball UFC and I promise you I’m running the touchdown. And I promise you getting Marty fakenewsman to sign a contract when it’s going to be a fair fight is a whole nother story because unless he has Marc Goddard to help him cheat, he’s not going to show up to fight me.”

He added, “I’m ready to go. I stay ready, I never have to get ready and I live the lifestyle. I’m always in shape ready to go so I can jump on opportunities like this.”

Colby Covington competed for the 170 lbs strap at UFC 245. In Las Vegas, the fighter suffered defeat for the first time in 4 years. He fell to ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ via TKO with 50 seconds left in the final round. The loss closed the curtains on a 7 fight win streak where he triumphed over the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Demian Maia, and Robbie Lawler.

Unfortunately for ‘Chaos’, despite his readiness, the company is in negotiations with his former friend and heated rival Jorge Masvidal. Furthermore, ‘Gamebred’ has passed one round of coronavirus testing as well.

Should the UFC’s negotiations with Jorge Masvidal fall through, the company knows they have another option. However, getting fighters to Asia and testing them and having to do weight cuts, will clearly be much more challenging with every passing second.

Do you see the Welterweight Championship match getting reinstated at the main event? If yes, who do you think will get the opportunity to battle Kamaru Usman? Or should the UFC just reschedule the fight against ‘Durinho’ to a later date?
