Georges St-Pierre competed in the UFC for fifteen years. He fought as a Welterweight for a large part of his career. However, in his final fight, he moved to Middleweight and beat Michael Bisping to claim the Championship. In doing so he became only the fourth fighter to hold titles in two weight classes. He retired from active competition a few months later that year and went down as one of the top fighters in the company. However, he made a shocking revelation to ESPN MMA’s Ariel Helwani.

Georges St-Pierre does not like to fight

“But I actually don’t like to fight. I never enjoyed one second in the Octagon in my entire career,” said ‘GSP.’

It may sound shocking coming from a man who has a combined title streak of 2,204 days. He also has 9 consecutive successful title defenses. When he was active he even had the record for most wins in title fights with 12. The record currently is held by UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones who has 14 wins in title fights.

‘GSP’ revealed a thought that comes to him when he thinks of returning. He said that he looks at the present-day talent and thinks they can be beaten. However, he does not want to return to that lifestyle. Later in the discussion, he drops another bombshell and reveals he only fought because he was good at it. And not because he loved it.

“Because I love what fighting gave me… the freedom, the wealth, the money all the advantages that comes with it. I just like to do it because I am just very good at it. And I like what it gives me. I don’t like the actual fight. It’s very stressful,” said the Canadian.

These comments mean it may be tough to see ‘GSP’ back into the Octagon anytime soon. But with such a stellar career and a 26-2 record, he certainly has nothing left to prove and no reason to get into a stressful and actual fight.

Will ‘GSP’ make a shocking U-turn and return for a fight? Should his Middleweight title win be a glorious final chapter to an equally glorious career?
