Never mess with Matt Brown’s dip

Viewers of the TUF season 7 would have a first-hand glimpse of how dangerous an angry Matt Brown can be. Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson would serve as the coaches for season 7, with Brown being selected by Team Griffin. In the show, Jeremy May, a fellow contestant, would squeeze lemon juice in Matt Brown’s dip which angered the Ohio native who selected May as his first opponent.

The fight would end with a head kick finish, sending May to the canvas, giving Brown his first win of the season. Unsurprisingly no one would end up messing with Matt Brown during the rest of the season.

Beardless Matt Brown against Thomas in 2008

Since we’ve seen Brown on TUF and the UFC, ‘The Immortal’ one has always showcased his facial hair. However, in what was only his third fight in the UFC, a clean-shaven Matt Brown walked out to face Ryan Thomas. It was UFC 91 in 2008, headlined by Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar. The clean-shaven American would secure an armbar in the second round, resulting in his first submission win in the promotion.

Brown vs Robbie Lawler UFC welterweight title eliminator

Between 2012 – 2014, Brown was able to put together an impressive seven-fight win streak. This included wins over Stephen Thompson and Mike Swick. To add even more shine to the run, six of the seven fights were finishes. The UFC would put Brown in a title eliminator between the Immortal one and fellow UFC veteran and legend, ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler.

However, things would not go Brown’s way as he would miss weight and lose the fight via a five-round unanimous decision. The fight was awarded ‘Fight of the Night’ and Lawler would go on to win the UFC welterweight title in his next fight against Johny Hendricks.

Flips off Brazilian crowd at Weigh-In UFC 198

Matt Brown would enter hostile territory in 2016 to face fellow welterweight Demian Maia as he looked to get back in title contention. As Brown took to the stage for his weigh-in, the Brazilian crowd chanted, ‘uh-vai-morrer’, a chant now more known to the MMA audience since Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo.

The brash and unfazed Matt Brown would flip off the crowd with both hands as he stepped off the scale. Things would not get easier for Brown as he was hit a few times by fans in the audience as he made his way to the octagon on fight night.

Matt Brown’s ‘Hellbow’ on Diego Sanchez

‘The Immortal’ one would go on a three-fight skid losing to Demian Maia, Jake Ellenberger, and Donald Cerrone. He would then face TUF season 1 veteran, Diego Sanchez, in his next fight. Anytime a fighter goes on a three-fight losing streak, there is always a chance of them getting cut.

However, Matt Brown produced a devastating elbow to KO the legend. As he pushed Sanchez to the cage, Brown would hold Diego’s face and drop a huge elbow. This remains one of the most vicious finishes in the UFC.
