That’s the end! Mikaela Shiffrin had her third DNF earlier today as she slid away in the slalom competitions. After ranking fifth in the downhill combine competition, she could not muster up a good performance in the second round. Sadly, things went down south for the talented skier, ending her dreams of winning a solo Olympic medal in the Winter Games this year.

Notably, she did not finish in the first two giant slalom and slalom events and lost her footing there as well. Although she tried to make comebacks during the downhill and Super-G competitions, it was a poor performance altogether. Shocked, fans on Twitter reacted to her loss, as they could not believe what had just happened.

“Heartbroken for her. I can only imagine how she feels and how hard this is, but I hope she knows that this does not define her and does not negate all of her prior accomplishments. It’s understandable considering all the circumstances. Sending love and support,” a fan wrote.

Moving forward, there is still the mixed team parallel slalom competition left for her to compete in. Despite that, her performances at the Beijing Winter Olympics shows, she has much to improve in the future. Nevertheless, this is not the end of the road for Mikaela, as she most certainly will come back stronger.

She had her doubts

Heading to the event, she had her doubts about her performing in the combined event. With sliding off in the first of her both giant slalom and slalom competitions, her confidence was at an all-time low. Thus, she spoke to NBC about her approach before the event.

“I’m not feeling totally confident with the slalom. I mean, I have a recurring image of myself skiing out on the fifth gate again, so I’m just going to do my best,” said Shiffrin.
