The bodybuilding enthusiast was only 19 when he entered the competitive world. Furthermore, his first Mr. Olympia was in the year 2017 where he secured the second position. However, little did he know that the next year won’t go easy on him.
Unfortunately, Chris was not in his best form in the 2018 Mr. Olympia; his physique didn’t appear sharp enough to leave fans in shock. The reason behind this was not transparent until he posted a YouTube video where he explained the entire story.
“I lost a bunch of weight from the diet,” said the champ. “All of a sudden, I woke up, and I was five pounds heavier. I had a bunch of water in my shins again and I was about to see the doctor. I woke up the next day and just put up 15 pounds. The next day, my ankles were swollen.”
All in all, the bodybuilder suffered from water retention and thus couldn’t win the contest that year. It was very heartbreaking for Chris, given the amount of effort he had put in.

Bodybuilding as a sport has mushroomed in the last few years. Legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman, Franco Columbu, and many more, left their footprints in the history of the sport.

In 2021, Chris Bumstead collected his third Mr. Olympia title and shared his feelings regarding his triumph.
“It doesn’t feel any less special than the first one,” said Chris. “It’s been an amazing journey, you know. Bodybuilding’s given me so much. It’s a road full of ups and downs.”
