At some point, he abandoned meditation in favor of his regular exercise regime. Being a “grumpy old man,” in Schwarzenegger’s opinion, is not an ideal to live by. He explains it further in his newsletter, saying, I think I stay full of joy because I don’t go finding things to get mad about. Today everybody is on social media looking for a reason to be mad. I don’t fall for that trap.

“I was just with a friend who was a little bit upset at someone’s supplement company having shyster-ish claims. I said, ‘What do you care? All we can focus is making ourselves and the world around us better, so that guy sells something we don’t like, who cares?'”

Grueling workout sessions that gave the Austrian Oak a Zeus-like physique!

The Austrian’s dedication to living a healthy life is unmatched. Since he used to work out at the local gym even when it was closed, he had incredible self-control that most gym-goers lack. The athlete often divided his training week into two halves. Chest, back, legs, calves, and forearms on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Every other week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, he worked on his biceps, triceps, shoulders, calves, forearms, and abs.

His regimen looked somewhat like this:

  • Bench presses, cable crossovers, flat bench flies, dumbbell pullovers, incline bench presses, and dips made up his chest workout.
  • Wide-grip chin-ups, pulley rows, T-bar rows, straight-leg deadlifts, and one-arm dumbbell rows were all part of his back workout program.
  • Leg presses, leg curls, barbell lunges, leg extensions, and squats made up the bulk of his leg workout.
  • He did standing calf lifts, seated calf raises, and single-leg calf raises as part of his calf program (with weights).
  • Wrist curls, reverse barbell curls, and the Wright roller machine made up the bulk of his forearm workouts.
  • He did seated barbell presses, lateral rises, rear delt lateral raises, and cable lateral raises as part of his shoulder program.
  • He did barbell curls, seated dumbbell curls, and dumbbell concentration curls to work his biceps.
  • Close-grip bench presses, push-downs, barbell French presses, and one-arm dumbbell triceps extensions made up the bulk of his regimen.
