When we talk about the most aesthetically pleasing physiques in the history of bodybuilding, Frank Zane is the first to pop into our minds. The bodybuilder graced the stage with high muscle quality and his knowledge of the sport. Recently, Zane disclosed his stern opinion on the transformation of women’s bodybuilding.

While women’s bodybuilding has come a long way now, it was just taking off when Zane was active. In an interview with Lisa Alastuey, the 80-year-old veteran revealed his views on the use of implants in women’s bodybuilding. Let’s find out what his opinions were.

Frank Zane’s clear take on women’s bodybuilding

In his 80 years, Frank Zane has seen the bodybuilding world grow exponentially. He has been a part of the sport since the Mr. Olympia contest was just a few years old. However, while the 3x Mr. Olympia winner didn’t oppose the use of steroids in men’s bodybuilding, he believes women’s bodybuilding should refrain from the same.

He explained, “Basically if they take steroids, they are not going to look that feminine after a while. Start looking like their brothers.” And for Zane, a woman bodybuilder must have that feminine set of muscles. He said, “I think the ones that are the best that could still look feminine. Feminine muscle you might say.”

Moreover, when he was asked about the use of implants in women’s bodybuilding, Zane had a crystal clear answer to this question. He replied, “That’s cheating, I think. Any implants, I think, is cheating. I mean, come on, develop the muscle”.

Zane’s take on drug usage in men’s bodybuilding

Men’s open bodybuilding is the most popular category in Mr. Olympia every year. When Zane was asked about the usage of ‘every kind of drugs’ in men’s bodybuilding, he had an unconventional answer.

Zane replied, “Well, they do what they need to do. You know, if everybody’s doing it, they want to level the playing field. It’s a disadvantage not to do what everybody else is doing.”
