“This Is Devastating”: Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Ex-Wife Maria Shriver Is Doing Her Part to Help the People of Turkey and Syria Amidst Challenging Times

On 6th February 2023, a disaster of maximum potential struck two counties in the Middle East. An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit Turkey and Syria leaving tens of thousands dead and thousands of others injured. Communities have come together to help those in need, in these difficult times. A member of the Kennedy family and former first lady of California, Maria Shriver is one of them. She is doing her part to alleviate the troubles of the injured and urging everyone to do their part too.

Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ex-wife, took to her Instagram and shared some heartbreaking pictures. She also posted a long and heartfelt caption, explaining the impact of the crisis and the urgency for everyone to come together. Here’s more on her efforts.

Maria Shriver wrote in her Instagram post, “This is a crisis that we all need to pay attention to. This is devastating. In an instant… I will share ways to give back, to help, in my stories today and in the coming days. Let’s all do what we can!” A video showing a family trapped inside rubble and being rescued by workers was attached alongside it.

Her long post started by describing the horrors of the condition in Turkey and Syria at the moment. She wrote, “More than 11000 people are known to have died following a massive earthquake… Rescue workers and the crowd chanted ‘God is great,’ when they were pulled alive”.

Shriver’s concerns were not met by just sharing the post. In her Instagram stories, she shared a picture of the rubble of a building destroyed by the earthquake. In it, the foundation “savethechildren” and the words, “Help Kids Impacted by Turkiye and Syria Earthquakes” were written. There was the mention of the total amount raised so far which is “$149,231.6” and a button to “Donate”. She followed it up with another story about how to donate.

As an empathetic soul, Maria Shriver has always worn her heart on her sleeve and held the virtue of kindness and generosity high. Known to display her emotions openly, Shriver expressed grief, a rather personal one, after learning about a tragic piece of news last year.

Maria Shriver was heartbroken at the news about the demise of her dear friend Nick Chavezbh on December 23, 2022. Lost for words during her eulogy at Chazevbh’s funeral, She could only say how her “heart broke for him”. Chazevbh, a celebrity hairstylist and dresser, died after suffering from pancreatic cancer. She has always maintained her empathetic touch and kindness toward others, no matter what.

She joins many other celebs, some from the sporting world, to help the earthquake victims. Just recently, alpine skier Lindsey Vonn too shared an emotional post on her Instagram, expressing her grief and standing in solidarity with the victims and their families. Maris Shriver’s efforts and plea for help, along with others, might just help reduce their pain to some extent.
