“Need to Eliminate the Garbage”: Samir Bannout Warns Bodybuilders of Detrimental Side Effects of Using Insulin

Retired bodybuilder Samir Bannout is one of the legends of sports. He has always stressed a healthy lifestyle. Bannout won the Mr. Olympia title in 1983, which highlighted him as a fitness advocate. The bodybuilder also appeared in many health magazines like Strength and Health, MuscleMag International, Muscle Digest, etc. Samir is well aware of the supplements and drugs that can cause harm to the body in the long run. He openly talks about the bad habits in the fitness industry. In a recent interview, he criticized the use of insulin.
“The Lion of Lebanon”, was the first middle-eastern bodybuilder to win the Mr.Olympia title. Moreover, on winning the prestigious title, he became the bodybuilder to defeat, Lee Haney, eight-time Mr.Olympia champion.

What did Samir Bannout say about insulin consumption?
Samir’s passion for bodybuilding made him shift from Lebanon to Michigan. At first, he participated in the amateur championships. Eventually, he won the IFBB World Amateur Championship in 1979, through which he achieved the status of an IFBB pro. In 1982, Bannout ranked fourth in Mr. Olympia. However, in the following year, he took the title home.

There has been a change in the bodybuilding trends along with drugs and supplements. Bannout has not been a big fan of certain drugs and compounds’ uses. In a recent interview with Fitnessvolt .com, the retired bodybuilder warned people using insulin.

Bodybuilders often use insulin after exercise to enhance muscle fullness and nutrient storage. However, Samir is against using it. He indicated that the use of insulin can cause the body to grow unevenly. It can mess with the visceral fat of the body. He said, “How many times we talk about life expectancy? If that is involved, we need to eliminate the garbage. If you want to live to 75 or 80, you need to avoid this crap [Insulin]. Otherwise, I’m telling you right now, continue to use Insulin and all the unnecessary garbage, you will not make it to 60 — I’m very sorry. You will not. Thank you Milos. Milos do you agree with me?”
Bannout advised that using insulin without any support can cause major health hazards. He recommended consuming high glycemic carbs along with insulin. Otherwise, the person might die in some years.
Bannout on use of steroids

Samir Bannout is not much happy with today’s image of bodybuilding. He believes that bodybuilders today are more focused on size than mass. In one of his interviews, Samir revealed that he never took anything. During the competition, the harshest oral he used was Anadroll, which made him huge.

He stated that using a steroid or drugs required a slot seriousness. One should only use it if they are competing. Unnecessary use of steroids cannot result well, according to Samir.
