Ronnie Coleman hails from a small town in Bastrop, Louisiana. In his family, fitness was admired a lot. Activities like swimming, football, and baseball were common to Coleman as he grew up with them. Bodybuilding became a favorite hobby for young Coleman, and he just continued it with full passion. He is now a retired professional bodybuilder who has eight Mr. Olympias in his bag.

A normal phrase became Ronnie Coleman’s brand

During workouts, Ronnie Coleman used to shout out “Yeah Buddy.” In a gym, everyone has their own phrases to call out someone, and that someone can be anybody. Also, while lifting weights in the gym, it gets to a point where you have to shout to vent it all out.

“In Louisiana, we called each other buddy a lot,” Coleman said and continued, “so, one day I just blurted out, ‘Yeah Buddy!’ and it stuck.” The place where Coleman belonged was like everyone knew each other. Usually, in a small town, people always know each other and it is pretty common everywhere.

Coleman said, “I never thought in a million years they would become as popular as they are today.” During the whole interview, Coleman was very surprised when revealing his brand. The phrase isn’t just iconic, but it is also one of the leading supplement brands in the world.

Even though he is a big man and one of the greatest names in the bodybuilding industry, Coleman is a great human, too. During his prime time, he was unbeatable, but never showed any kind of arrogance toward his opponents.

Coleman’s journey from a small town to the big leagues

Ronnie Coleman, also known as Big Ron, ‘during his cop career, joined a local gym called MetroFlex. MetroFlex was a classic gym with dusty dumbbells and rusted weights, but Coleman liked it there. Owned by Brian Dobson, Coleman got a lifetime free gym pass in exchange for Dobson training him for the 1990 Mr. Texas bodybuilding competition.

Coleman secured the first position, and then he didn’t stop. Big Ron got the taste of winning, and he was hungry for more. The eight-time Mr. Olympia was finally defeated by his rival, Jay Cutler in 2006. Coleman retired after that, but his legacy remains in the bodybuilding community.
