2023 Britain’s Strongest Man competition just made a wrap. With winners declared, Sheffield just witnessed the gathering of a mix of Britain’s greatest and most-talented Strongman athletes. Even though many of the competitors, like Terry Hollands and Luke Richardson, withdrew at the last moment, the show was pulled off with great success.

Beating past others, the 34-year-old Adam Bishop claimed the title for himself. The win is significant for Bishop after his last year’s withdrawal. Here’s looking back at the eventful day in detail.

Adam Bishop stands tall on the podium

With a 3.5 marks margin, the former rugby player Adam Bishop beat big names like Gavin Bilton, Graham Hicks, and others to win the competition. For Bishop, this was his second win at Britain’s Strongest Man competition. Back in 2020, he won the competition for the very first time. In the following year, he secured the first runner-up place next to Graham Hicks.

Bishop had to compete in five rounds alongside the other competitors to claim this year’s win. He secured comfortable wins in four of the five rounds. The only event where he failed to finish first was the Viking Press. It was the third event of the competition, and the competitors were instructed to press overhead. The weights were predetermined, and the participants were supposed to perform the maximum reps possible.

By performing 13 reps, Paul Smith stood first, while with just eight reps, Adam Bishop finished seventh. However, in the remaining four events, 300 lbs Bishop performed very well. This made it easy for him to claim the first position. With 53.5 points, Bishop stood first, while Gavin Bilton was declared the first runner-up with 50 points. Securing the third spot was Graham Hicks with 48 points. The win comes significantly to Bishop after last year’s withdrawal.

What prompted Bishop to withdraw from the 2022 Strongman Classic?

Last year on 6th July, it was officially announced that Bishop would withdraw from the 2022 Giants Live Strongman Classic following an unexpected injury. Less than a week before the competition, the announcement was made. Subsequently, three days ahead of the competition, Gavin Bilton was announced as his replacement.

Unfortunately, Bishop suffered from a tricep tendon tear while preparing for the competition. He also shared a post regarding his injury, hinting at possible surgery. As Bishop recovered from his injury, he slowly paced himself up again. Leaving no stone unturned this time, he successfully claimed the title for the second time.
